
The peanut's having a rough time of it these days, with the rise in peanut allergies and the recent outbreak of salmonella tainted peanut butter. But since this is National Peanut Butter Month, we'd be remiss if we let it pass without paying some kind of tribute to this humble legume.
According to the National Peanut Board, the world's largest edible peanut was 4 inches long and was grown by Earl Adkins in North Carolina.
As far as non-edible peanuts go, Durant, Oklahoma lays claim to having the world's largest. See a picture here at Roadside America.

For sheer size you'd probably have to go with Ashburn, Georgia's version of the World's Largest Peanut. Roadside America also reports on that one here and discusses some of the other claimants to the throne.
