Food preferences are a subjective thing, if I may begin by stating the blatantly obvious. We all like what we like, and while many of us would gag at the prospect of wolfing down lamb's brains or badger, there are probably those who might be equally repulsed by Pringles or peanut butter.

If you've busted the bindings on your Joy of Cooking or Fannie Farmer Cookbook and you're ready for something more adventurous, these books may broaden your culinary horizons. Even if you never prepare a recipe that utilizes treasures like herring semen, they make for some thrillingly vicarious armchair cuisine.

Knott’s Berry Farm to Host First Ever World Championship Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Eating Contest

Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park will be the site of the first ever world championship peanut butter and jelly sandwich eating championship on Wednesday, August 8 at 1:00 pm. The "PB&J Fest" was created to celebrate the start of the 2007 Drum Corps International Summer Music Games World Championship at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

The competition, which is sanctioned by Major League Eating, will include 16 professional and amateur competitors. In preparation for the contest Knott’s Berry Farm will make 300 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches using Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Knott’s Berry Farm Boysenberry jelly.

The competition will be held in Knott’s Calico Square and is included with park admission. To purchase tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm, visit knotts.com.

10 Designer Fruits We'd Like To See

Bizarre cross-bred and genetically tweaked fruits are hardly the stuff of science fiction these days. If your local grocery store is forward-thinking enough you might be able to find such quirky delights as an Aprium (apricot & plum), Grapple (grape-flavored apple), or Nectaplum (nectarine & plum), just to name a few.

Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum

With a reputation on these shores of being a dirt cheap food for financially challenged college students and the like, it might seem odd that there's an entire museum devoted to ramen. But there is - and it's in Japan, as you might have guessed.

It doesn't appear that the museum has a Web presence that's friendly to English speakers, but here's the Japanese site. Or you can check out the Tokyo Food Page, who present a virtual tour.
